Elon Musk has thrown down a bold marker in the intensifying AI competition, declaring Grok’s newly enhanced voice mode the “best AI chat feature ever created.”

In a series of posts on X, the xAI founder praised the system’s seamless real-time conversational ability, contrasting it with rivals he described as robotic and limited.

Musk’s endorsement highlighted what he sees as Grok’s defining edge: continuous listening that allows natural interruptions and pauses, expressive emotional tones that mimic human delivery, and hands-free usability for multitasking scenarios such as driving, cooking, or brainstorming. “Grok voice is insanely good now – try it!” he wrote, sharing clips of fluid exchanges that showcased the system’s ability to sustain back-and-forth dialogue without the stilted breaks common in other platforms.

Backing his claim, Musk pointed to Grok’s #1 ranking on the τ²-Bench Verified Agentic Tool Use leaderboard, where it surpassed OpenAI’s GPT-5.2 in real-world task performance. The benchmark recognition positions Grok as a leader in agentic AI—systems designed not just to generate text but to act intelligently across tasks.

The voice mode is currently available exclusively to SuperGrok subscribers on iOS and Android apps, offering unlimited usage without the interruptions that plague free tiers. Early adopters have described the experience as “shockingly natural,” with applications ranging from podcast-style conversations to language practice and creative ideation. Some feedback, however, notes occasional glitches such as misheard commands or overly dramatic tonal shifts.

Musk contrasted Grok with competitors, saying: “Others feel robotic; Grok actually listens and responds like a person.” The update builds on xAI’s rapid iteration cycle, with voice first introduced in beta earlier in 2025 and now refined into what Musk calls a breakthrough feature.

Beyond consumer delight, the rollout underscores Musk’s ambition to position Grok as a flagship in the AI arms race. By combining benchmark dominance with experiential polish, xAI aims to carve out a distinct niche against incumbents like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind. Musk has also hinted at broader integration, suggesting Grok voice could become a foundation for AI-driven assistants across Tesla vehicles, Neuralink interfaces, and other ventures.

For now, SuperGrok subscribers enjoy priority access and higher quotas, while Musk continues to frame Grok as the most human-like AI companion available. The announcement signals both a technical milestone and a marketing salvo in the battle to define the future of conversational AI.
